Prospect Weekly
Diwali Celebrations

Reception had an exciting time celebrating Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Light. The day was filled with lots of fun activitie, including making Rangoli patterns using tissue paper and shaping clay into Diva lamps. We enjoyed tidying and cleaning the classroom role-play house and learnt a Bollywood dance.

Craft Club in the Lower School

Children in the Lower School craft club enjoyed making clay hedgehogs. It was quite tricky to mould and shape the clay! Did you know that a hedgehog has over 500 spines?

Battle of the Brains at Epsom College

Last Friday, four lucky children travelled to Epsom College for a Battle of the Brains Quiz. The atmosphere was tense, with fingers on the buzzers! The semi-final was a close-run battle, with PHS just managing to edge past their competitors, Surbiton High Boys, for a place in the final, against Weston Green School. Questions ranged from asking what car James Bond drives (an Aston Martin, if you’re interested!) to which queen was married to Prince Albert (do you know that one?) to having to identify famous landmarks by looking at a photograph. The children were true ambassadors for Prospect House: enthusiastic, humble, polite and courteous at all times. They were pipped at the post and came second in this entertaining and enjoyable competition! Well done, children!

Year 4 Maths – Learning about Shape

Year 4 have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes in maths this week. Today, the children used nets of 3D shapes to create objects that we use in daily life. They are looking pretty proud of their work!

Lower School Instrumental Concert

Six musicians performed to a packed Lower School Hall on Tuesday morning. We all thoroughly enjoyed the concert and were really impressed by the piano, guitar, and violin performances. We are now looking forward to more instrumental concerts after the Christmas holiday.

Year 4 Scientists

Children in 4R really enjoyed creating their own circuits and making a lightbulb shine. Some of the children really challenged themselves by constructing parallel and series circuits. Initially, some of the bulbs did not light up, but the children persevered and corrected parts of the ciruits that were broken. Eventually, everyone succeeded in completing a circuit – a real ‘light-bulb’ moment in every sense!

Doodles and Scribbles

The visit of author Lucy Reynolds and illustrator Jenna Herman enthralled children in the Lower School this week. They learnt some incredible ‘Hoggie’ facts and enjoyed the new story from the ‘Doodles and Scribbles’ ( duo.

It’s a Boy! Congratulations!

Many congratulations to Mrs Watkinson and her husband, Henry. We are thrilled to announce the safe arrival of Frederick Henry Watkinson, born yesterday, weighing a healthy 7lb. Mum and baby are both doing well and we look forward to meeting Frederick very soon.

Drama in the Lower School

Children were asked to come up with their own dinosaur-themed routines. They showed wonderful creativity and teamwork, and communicated well to create lovely dances. Mrs Bailey-Pratt and Miss Hughes were very impressed with all of the children’s confidence whilst performing. Well done Dance Club!

Reminder – School Photos

Please remember that the photographer will be in school on Monday 19 November to take individual photographs and sibling groups. Those children who have PE on Monday should come to school in uniform and ensure they bring their PE kit to school. Nursery children should wear their red school tracksuits.Smart uniform, tidy hair and bright smiles are the order of the day!

Pick up and Drop off Parking

I have had a number of emails and telephone calls from neighbours of both the Upper and Lower School complaining about the inconsiderate parking of some of our parents. Please park considerately and ensure that your car is not blocking anyone’s driveway. Thank you

Contacting Children in School

Under NO circumstances should parents message their children on their iPads in school. All comunication MUST go via the school office. I have re-iterated to the children that they must go to the office if they wish their parents to be contacted.

Running Club

Parents are very welcome to join us for a little jog around Wimbledon Common on Wednesday 28 November. Please meet at 8:00am at school in your running kit! The last running club of the year will be 5 December.
