Animation Club News

The children have been having a great time in animation club. They have created animations using a mixture of Lego figures and plasticine models and are now incorporating green screens to change the backgrounds and make them come to life!

Fun in Nursery

Children in nursery have completed their first half of term. This week, they have been learning about nocturnal animals and the ‘sound of the week’ was ‘i’. The children have hunted for objects starting with ‘i’ and have even been building igloos! Well done nursery children!

Radnor House Maths Challenge

On Monday afternoon, six of our Year 6 pupils took part in an exciting maths challenge at Radnor House. Upon arrival, they were escorted to the hall where teams from many schools were ready to take part. Each round tested the children on different strands of maths and our team displayed excellent teamwork and impressive problem solving skills. We finished one point behind the winners on this occasion and, on the journey back to Prospect House, the children discussed their chances in other upcoming maths challenges. Well done, Prospect: let’s keep working hard and developing our mathematical knowledge each and every day!

Surbiton High School Maths Challenge

On Wednesday afternoon, four Year 6 pupils travelled to Surbiton High School for the annual Maths Challenge. The competition was tough, with eleven local schools taking part. Tasks included finding all the triangles within a shape, creating cubes from templates and working out the total number of dominoes in a standard set (based on the number of dots). The children fought valiantly and, following two tiebreaks, their efforts were rewarded with bronze medals. Well done!

Computing in Reception

In the Reception classes this half-term, the children have been working on using a laptop’s keyboard and trackpad to develop their fine motor skills; many are now demonstrating confidence and ability, particularly when controlling the cursor. The children have enjoyed exploring programs that are developing their simple computational thinking as well as supporting their learning in English and maths. The E-Safety aspect of the programme has been successful in broadening the children’s awareness of the responsible use of their devices.

Balance Beams

In gym, children in 3C have been designing and practising an array of balances. They have also had great fun trying to link them all together.

Christmas Fair – Saturday 24 November

PROFS have given each of the children a flyer to take home, which includes details of a donations appeal for this year’s raffle and tombola. Also included are details of this year’s art competition, the closing date of which is Tuesday 6 November.

Lower School Quiz

The Lower School staff and children had a great time at their quiz this morning. Questions ranged from ‘Supertato’ to the ‘Great Fire of London’! The mixed teams of Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children were each guided by a teacher or teaching assistant.

A very big thank you to our quiz-master, Miss Hughes, for compiling such a fun and exciting variety of questions and for keeping us so entertained.

Upper School House Quiz

What a quiz! If you don’t know your three-character airport codes by now, you’d better get flying this half-term! Dingbats and famous faces were just some of the puzzles that the Upper School pupils had to contend with today as they worked together to answer some pretty tricky questions. Can you spell out PROSPECT using the first letter of European countries? (There isn’t a European country that starts with ‘O’ so we had best ignore that one!).

All the pupils had a great afternoon and Johnson emerged victorious! Well done to everyone though, and thank you to Ms Lane for running the afternoon so brilliantly!

Finton House Football Tournament

Year 3 boys took part in this week’s Finton House Football Tournament. The team ended with three losses and two draws, results that unfortunately did not really reflect the quality of their play.
