The hall was adorned with the childrens work; name kites and mermaid wind chimes hung with pride as Nursery performed their first class assembly. The topic was Fairy Tales, with the children sharing examples of their work, accompanied by a slideshow demonstrating them in action! Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid, Jack and the Beanstalk and Alice in Wonderland provided the basis for their work, with each section of the assembly introduced by a singing verse. The children not only showcased singing and art, but also poetry, with a class recital of the ‘A Little Seed’. It was a fantastic end to the term!
Year 3 class about looking after our environment through the use of renewable energy!
On Thursday morning, Year 3 were joined by Mr Carpenter, who shared his knowledge and expertise on looking after our environment through the use of renewable energy. The children enjoyed learning about all the renewable resources that are naturally replenished. These include sunlight, wind, water and geothermal heat. What seemed to be the most well-received piece of information was the use of poo power, which the children learned can produce clean renewable energy. They also got the opportunity to create their own models of renewable energy through the use of Lego, which they then presented to the class. A big thank you to Mr Carpenter for such an insightful presentation.
This week, Year 2 performed their spectacular production of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. The children were brilliant and musically told the tale of Willy Wonka with style! Thank you to all of the parents who helped with line-learning and costume creating.
3C put on a fantastic performance for their class assembly, all about the Romans. They told a story about five of the gods who made their way down to the city of Rome to see what life was like for the citizens. They worked extremely hard throughout their rehearsals, which was reflected in a great performance on the day; they should be extremely proud of themselves!
Quite simply an amazing day! Athletes, ignoring the scorching heat, produced some wonderful performances including the javelin and shot put in the Upper School as well as the mini obstacle, water mayhem and new hoop jumping event.
The ‘blue ribbon’ sprints produced agonising finishes in all year groups and a few new PHS records along the way (please see below)
However, the true winners, in our first new look 4 house system, were PEGASUS.
Congratulations to all the children, who were magnificent, and all the parents created a wonderful atmosphere showing excellent support!
Year 1 had a lovely time at the Science Museum to link in with their topic on space. They attended an interactive ‘Destination Space’ workshop where they looked at how to get to the International Space Station, and how to keep safe if they were to live and work in space. This included dressing up in a spacesuit, blasting off rockets, filtering water to keep it clean and floating a ping pong ball along with an ‘anti-gravity’ device (a hairdryer!). They enjoyed exploring the space section of the museum where they searched for moon rock, found facts about Yuri Gugarin, the first person to go into space, and even tried to pick things up wearing space gloves! A big thank you to Ms Krivda, Mrs McIntosh and Miss Shi who accompanied them on the trip.
The Year 6s have had a fantastic week away at Rockley Watersports in Poole. They have learnt loads of new skills on the water: exploring the harbour on kayaks, Mega SUP (stand up paddle boards) and windsurfers, finishing off the week with a day’s sailing around Poole Harbour, stopping off midway for a beach picnic. Experiencing all seasons, the children did fantastically well at coping with sun, wind & rain! The evenings have been jam packed with beach activities: crabbing, sandcastle building and volleyball, and they even managed a beach party!
Everything's just right on the Isle of Wight!
Year 5 enjoyed their residential trip immensely this week. From zip wires to shelter building to the 'Leap of Faith', the children and their proud teachers had a brilliant time! The main highlights of the trip were the morning spent at the beach and the real test of courage: the 3G swing! Singing, laughter, teamwork and encouragement were constants throughout each activity. Year 5 will sleep very well indeed this weekend after such a busy week!
It was wonderful to come together to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee on the last day before half term. The playgrounds turned into festive picnic grounds, the treats were enjoyed by all and there was a lovely feeling of community in the air as we toasted her Majesty. Thank you for joining us and we hope you all enjoyed the Platinum Jubilee weekend itself.
