In the last week of term, Year 6 embarked on the exciting ‘Race Across London’ challenge, a final adventure designed to foster independence and navigation skills as they prepare for secondary school. Tasked with tracking down eight specific statues at prominent landmarks without the aid of digital devices, teams relied on physical maps and cooperation to find their way. The route took them from the dragons at Tower Hill to Peter Pan in Hyde Park, passing Queen Anne at St Paul’s Cathedral along the way. Teams then made a dash to Parliament Square to officially ‘sign in’ with Miss Copsey at the Winston Churchill statue.

Following a midday lunch break at Jubilee Gardens by the London Eye, the race continued across the South Bank to find Nelson Mandela. The children then navigated to Mary Poppins in Leicester Square, paused for a quick team photo with the lions at Trafalgar Square, and completed a final sprint to the Johnny Haynes statue at Craven Cottage. Throughout the day, students managed their own travel, gaining practical experience with London’s public transport system.

The event concluded with a dash back to school to meet the 3:30 pm deadline, where Miss Leach’s team was ultimately revealed as the winners. A huge thank you to the staff as well as the parent volunteers whose support made this trip a fabulous and memorable way to finish Year 6.
