Scholarships at Prospect House School

Overview

We believe that talent and enthusiasm deserves to be nurtured. Whether your child is a budding mathematician, a virtuoso in the making, or a rising star on the sports field, our scholarship awards are designed to ignite passions and propel students towards success.

Excellence is celebrated through a range of scholarships across academics, art, music, drama and sport. These awards come with tuition fee remission of 20-30% which can be further supported by additional means-tested bursary awards. We understand that many children excel in more than one area; therefore multiple scholarships can be awarded to the same child. Normally students will be attending a state maintained school and be wishing to enter Year 3, 4 or 5, but we may occasionally make exceptions depending on the situation.

During their taster day, candidates will be invited to have an informal chat with the relevant head of department and take part in some tasks. Prior to this they are welcome to submit a CV of related co-curricular activities and a small portfolio.

Below is some further information and our enquiry form. We would be delighted to show you around Prospect House and discuss how we could support your child in the future.

From Year 3 and beyond

Gifted and Talented Pathways

For our most able students, we offer a bespoke enrichment journey that begins in Year 3. Weekly sessions that are more than just extra classes – they are explorations of creativity, skill and independence.

Academics

For those who thrive on intellectual challenge, we provide a launchpad for brilliance in English and maths. There is a strong tradition of problem-solving and creative writing at our school in which our more able pupils can be challenged to achieve their best. Our children regularly compete at prestigious events hosted by King’s College School Wimbledon, Emanuel School and Epsom College. Quiz Club and Problem-Solving Club remain ever popular for our mathematicians with the Poetry Together and Dukes Spelling Bee programmes providing a stage for every storyteller and lover of language to shine.

Art

We treat our artists like professionals. Our art pathway introduces a higher education style approach that encourages independent research and stylistic freedom. Under a overarching theme each term, students explore their ideas, visit galleries and refine their unique artistic voice before creating a final piece. The programme allows children to create drawing, sketches, paintings, ceramics, woodwork, installations, performance art and more! This culminates in our vibrant showcase at the end of every two terms where pupils curate their own space and present their creative process to an audience.

Drama

All pupils benefit from weekly lessons with our drama specialist and our scholars use this time to lead and mentor as well as refine their craft. With one or two major annual performances for each year group, pupils have constant opportunities to inhabit new roles. From Shakespearian classics to West End musicals, the stage is always set for children to command attention and communicate with confidence. Beyond acting, we encourage students to explore stagecraft, soundscapes and scriptwriting.

Music

This subject really is the heartbeat of the school. Around 70% of the pupil body play an instrument, taught by around 14 visiting music teachers. On offer we have three choirs, including an auditioned Chamber Choir, two orchestras and six musical ensembles in addition to twice weekly timetabled music lessons. For our keenly musical students, there is the opportunity to participate in music activities every day. Our Director of Music delves into theory and vocal mastery with the older students often leading them to achieve music scholarships to attend senior school.

Sport

Our elite athletes follow a sports pathway which goes far beyond the standard school PE curriculum. Weekly invite-only sessions are specifically designed to mirror senior school scholarship trials, ensuring children are confident and prepared for the next step. They are also fast-tracked into high-level tournaments, testing their mettle against the very best talent in the region. Sportsmanship is an important aspect of this programme with pupils learning how to referee and coach younger students in their own sporting endeavours.
