It’s that time of year again . . . Problem-Solving Week at Prospect House!
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 all had a fantastic time across the week using their problem-solving skills to solve exciting challenges at the Lower School. The hands-on activities were fabulous; the children had time to ask questions and examine each problem closely as they worked out their answers. A particular highlight was taking part in a mathematical treasure hunt around the building and gardens!
Even Nursery got involved as they decorated and cut out their own tangrams. Using pictures of different types of transport, they had lots of fun turning, flipping and moving the shapes to make their own vehicles. There was plenty of thinking, trying again and celebrating successes as the children worked out how the pieces fitted together.
The Upper School took part in eight different challenging and fun problem-solving challenges designed to exercise their resilience and strengthen their command of problem-solving strategies. Activities included a PE problem-solving quest, a combination cracking challenge, a 3D net investigation, a mystery online matrix and an artistic spiral pattern spotting challenge.
The definite highlight for Years 3 – 6 was hearing from some of our current parents on ways in which problem solving is a useful tool in their respective fields of work. They covered such diverse fields as humanitarian aid, power station design and construction, AI, accountancy, banking, codebreaking and language translation. It’s clear to see that problem-solving skills are indeed essential to success in all walks of life. Thank you once again, parents, for your hugely valued input!
