It’s that time of year again – annual Problem-Solving Day at Prospect House!

First on the agenda was an interactive problem-solving assembly where the children discussed various strategies and worked collaboratively to demonstrate systematic working relating to number combinations, shape visualisations and exponential growth. Afterwards, pupils took part in eight different problem-solving activities throughout the day where they had the opportunity to test their resilience and command of a range of problem-solving strategies. The activities included, amongst others, a 100 square jigsaw challenge, mathdoku, a sports problem-solving quest, a coding challenge and a 2D & 3D visualisation voyage.

Not to be left out, the students in the Lower School enjoyed various activities including a treasure hunt around the building where they needed to solve various maths problems, collect a letter and solve the riddle to find the next clue. Nursery spent the day working out how many times the funicular tram needed to go between two stations to deliver all the passengers safely as well as orienting tangram pieces to construct zodiac animals in conjunction with Lunar New Year. Our younger pupils really enjoyed the challenging and hands-on exploration which provided them with a rich mathematical experience.
