This year’s Remembrance Day assembly was truly special. Reverend Simpson had the challenging task of helping children who have grown up in peacetime understand the realities of war, and he achieved this beautifully. Using simple but powerful props––a tin of spam to talk about rationing and a small suitcase to represent evacuation––he brought history to life in a way that was both moving and accessible.

The assembly was pitch-perfect in its tone, helping our pupils to connect emotionally with the experiences of those who lived through the war years, and to understand why we remember their sacrifice, not to mention to give thought to those whose lives are still being torn apart by war.
