A lucky group of enthusiastic Year 5 students recently had the opportunity to participate in a Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) masterclass at Epsom College. The experience was enriching and engaging, allowing the children to immerse themselves in various aspects of language and culture.
In their French session, the children explored the exciting world of sports, focusing particularly on the Olympics that took place in Paris last year. They enjoyed tasting traditional French sweets known as Carambar, delighting in the unique flavours. An interesting surprise awaited them as they discovered that each wrapper contained a fun joke, adding an element of humour to their learning experience.
During the German lesson, they learned various greetings, which helped them practice conversational skills. They had the creative task of designing their very own key rings, which not only showcased their artistic flair but also reinforced their language learning. To enhance their cultural understanding, they listened to lively German music, allowing them to connect with the rhythm and spirit of the language.
In the Spanish segment, the children delved into the diverse world of Spanish cuisine, discovering regional specialties and the origins of different dishes across Spain. This exploration gave them a taste of the rich cultural tapestry that the Spanish-speaking world offers.
Overall, the MFL masterclass at Epsom College provided a fantastic opportunity for some Year 5 children to expand their language skills whilst enjoying a variety of cultural experiences.
