Following on from the days they spent at the Upper School as part of their transition programme, Year 2 recently took part in a fun and enlightening spatial reasoning session with Mr O’Sullivan as this will be a new lesson included in their timetable next year. The children demonstrated great effort and focus and an impressive willingness to experiment and investigate. Well done, Year 2!
In this first session they focused on combining and decomposing 2D and 3D shapes to create target shapes. The children employed a variety of online and tangible resources to help them visualise how shapes can combine to create a larger target shape. In Year 3, the children will move on to solve problems involving rotations, reflections, aerial views, nets of 3D shapes and following folds which all form part of the maths and NVR curricula.
