Seasonal change and the story The Squirrels Who Squabbled provided the inspiration for the activities in nursery last week. The children explored using various tools to transfer conkers into cardboard towers and predicting which tower would hold the most conkers, before transferring the conkers, counting as they did so.
The sound of the week saw the children create snakes with both playdough and by using the tap-a-shape to create colourful patterns on the snake’s skin; they were thinking about shapes, patterns and refining their hand eye co-ordination.
The children explored the new story in the story chest, Dear Zoo. It provided the children with the opportunity to re-tell the known story, drawing on the storybook language and repetitive refrain with the aid of props. The children did a fantastic job developing those early literacy skills.
